Marion County Divorce Records

Divorce or marriage dissolution records consist of the divorce decree and filings, motions, and settlements in a case involving two people who no longer wish to stay married.

The decree that formalizes the separation is a public record, as are the petitions, complaints, and affidavits. However, settlements involving financial disclosure or child custody agreements stay confidential.

A party in a divorce case can use a copy of the decree for a name change, remarriage, or a passport application. In the same vein, divorce records can become evidence in other family law matters, such as parenting disputes, child support enforcement, and alimony proceedings.
